INTRO TO AG
Semester 1 will focus on preparing for the autumn District FFA contests in Minot. The freshman contest centers on the first public speaking experience by memorizing and delivering the FFA Creed. Parliamentary Procedure will be introduced and basic FFA history with other FFA knowledge is highlighted in the District Greenhand Quiz competition. A team of four will be selected to represent the Westhope - Newburg FFA chapter.
Semester 2 will explore the world of agriculture in terms of crop and livestock production in North Dakota. Basic welding fundamentals will be part of the tech. ed. curriculum. Marketing and agricultural economics are essential keys to farming profitability. Planning for an approved Supervised Occupational Experience (SOE) program will be incorporated.
FFA membership is required. Participation is expected with a portion being reflected in classroom grading.
FOUNDATIONS OF AGRICULTURE
A more in - depth study in the science of agriculture expanding upon earlier courses. Agronomy, soil science, plant anatomy, livestock nutrition, breed characteristics, animal husbandry describes class content along with other agricultural topics. SOE program will develop and expand - a portion of grade.
FFA membership is required.
AGRICULTURAL FABRICATION & APPLICATIONS
The school shop will be utilized for constructing projects made from both metal and wood. We will invite experts in the various trades to share their knowledge within their industry. (Drywall, Electrician, Concrete / Brickwork / Landscape Pavers, Carpentry / Roofing, HVAC, Welding, Farm Equipment Maintenance, Diesel Mechanics, etc.) FFA membership and participation is optional.

Subgroup 1 FFA Officers & Sioux Pride Leaders:
The objective of this subgroup segment is to develop organizational skills, promote communication proficiency, highlight positive personality traits and build upon teamwork concept; as well as increasing school and community engagement. Pre-screening of class roster will be necessary for admission to enrollment.
FFA membership and participation is required.
Existing SOE programs will be encouraged to improve and expand.
Subgroup 2 co - op Work Experience:
Students must secure an approved job in order to be released for the work day beginning as early as 2:00 p.m.
One grading period will address customer relations, interviewing skills, resume development and ideal employee characteristics. Mr. Antram will be coordinating with employers to provide a positive educational experience and will periodically visit the job site to check on student performance. Employment must be consistent or student will be dropped from co - op program.
Co - op work experience is a form of SOE - therefore a record of hours and earnings will be required.
FFA membership and participation is optional.
